Mac Brown Excavating,Inc
High- Visibility Clothing Policy
As part of our PPE, per CALOSHA, the MBX Injury and Illness prevention Plan, and the MBX Code of Safe Practices, all Mac Brown employees are required to wear high vis clothing while working.
This includes but is not limited to: Company issued High-Vis T-shirts, sweaters, jackets, and vests.
A high-vis safety vest must be worn over any nonconforming clothing including sweaters and jackets even if you are wearing the correct clothing underneath. High-vis must be clearly seen by definition.
Failure to follow this policy will result in the following:
First warning- verbal warning
Second warning- written warning
Third- will be sent home without pay
High-visibility clothing requirements in California may include meeting the ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 standard. This standard requires that high-visibility clothing include fluorescent material and retroreflective material. [1, 2, 3]
Fluorescent material: The clothing should be fluorescent orange, yellow, or strong yellow green. [4, 5]
Retroreflective material: The clothing should have retroreflective material that reflects light back towards its source. [2]
Visibility: The clothing should provide 360° visibility. [3]
Fit: The clothing should fit properly and be inspected regularly. [1]
Weather conditions: The clothing should be appropriate for the weather conditions, such as waterproof or insulating. [6]
When to wear [1]
High-visibility clothing should be worn when employees are exposed to moving traffic or equipment. [1]
For example, flaggers and construction workers in work zones should wear high-visibility clothing. [7]
Other considerations [6]
The effectiveness of a high-visibility clothing program can be influenced by the work environment.
The program's objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
